Who we are
Care that starts from the community.
Equitable Birth Support CIC is a community-led organisation committed to improving maternity experiences and outcomes for women and families in Lewisham.
Our primary focus is on Black women and other marginalised groups who continue to face poorer outcomes than their white counterparts during pregnancy, birth and the postnatal period.
We believe every family deserves care that is safe, respectful and culturally sensitive.
What we do
Support designed to meet families where they are.
Antenatal Education
Culturally sensitive antenatal education that empowers families with knowledge and confidence for their pregnancy journey.
Perinatal Wellbeing Groups
Safe spaces for connection, shared learning and emotional support throughout pregnancy and the postnatal period.
One-to-One Consultations
Individual midwife consultations for women and families who may need extra guidance or reassurance.
Multilingual Resources
Digital resources and pregnancy information in multiple languages, ensuring accessible and inclusive support.
By working collaboratively with the NHS, local authorities and community partners, we aim to bridge the gap in maternity inequalities and strengthen trust between families and services.
Why it matters
Black women and other marginalised groups still face poorer outcomes in maternity care.
Our work helps address these inequalities through early education, culturally informed support and community empowerment — so that every pregnancy and every birth is met with compassion and dignity.
